4Requires good swing technique, clubhead speeds are accurate
By Gearhead Mania
Voice Caddie SC100 Launch MonitorThe SC100 uses Doppler radar to measure clubhead speed and ball speed. The smash factor is a calculation, as is the estimated carry distance. It derives launch angle from the approximate loft of the club, as a result the carry distance can be significantly wrong if your dynamic loft varies a lot. Being a high handicap player, the only club that registers quasi-accurate carry distances is the driver. The other clubs read yardages that are short by 10-60 yards. I used a Nikon Coolshoft AS laser rangefinger to check my distances. The saving grace is that the SC100 collects statistics for each of the clubs, and the clubhead speeds look quite accurate. Other reviews indicate the speeds are within a few percentages of Trackman, Flightscope, and the GC2 used as Golfsmith stores. If your dynamic loft is consistent (meaning your swing technique is good), then the carry distances will be more accurate as well. Otherwise, I found my calculated carry distances to be anywhere from 10-60 yards short of actual laser rangefinder-verified distances. The driver is about the only club with more accurate calculated carry distances.I recommend placing the SC100 about 5-6 paces from your ball. I tried it at 1 meter, but it was too close and didn't register any hits. About 50-60 inches away is the ideal spot. The remote control is a nifty feature, but it sometimes felt sluggish in responsiveness. It does not have a Lob Wedge selection, but others mentioned that using the Sand Wedge works the same. I felt Voice Caddie really should have included the Lob Wedge, or at the least made a "Wedge" button with multiple wedges like they did with Woods and Utility/Hybrids.The screen is not backlit but does have an orange color, and I had no problems reading it in the bright sun with polarized sunglasses. I used 4x NiMH AAA batteries and it did not have a problem with the lower voltage batteries.Overall: 4/5 stars, this isn't the tool for everyone. I'd say that for high handicap players, the clubhead speed readings are useful and it will present quasi-accurate driver carry distances. If your dynamic loft is too far off from the average club loft, the carry distances are woefully inaccurate. There's no way to adjust the lofts of the clubs in the SC100, which is a huge bummer.

5Very easy to use and very useful
By dahboss
I was surprised at how easy to set up and use this radar unit is - and how useful the remote control is. I used it this sunny morning for the first time on a driving range that faces East - and it worked like a charm from the first swing. I had to stand in front of it to use the remote control - to put it in my shadow - and that allowed the remote control to work flawlessly too (but you only use the remote control to change clubs and there's a button for each club, so it's not a problem)'It's very easy to see the large numbers, and it is very accurate on each shot and measurement (our course has range markers every 25 yards). This is one of the most well executed electronic devices I've every purchased. It makes practice much more fun - and helpful too. I also own another radar unit like this one, but the other unit has to be placed 8 inches to the right of the ball - which makes it impossible to see the numbers without moving. The SC100 is far superior to the older unit. It has a very high contrast amber face with very large letters and numbers, and it sits behind you so it's very easy to look back to see the results instantly - which is exactly the feedback you need with every shot.I think the SC100 is already improving my golf game - there's something very reassuring and reinforcing to see actual numbers when you are practicing - just hitting a ball without knowing the actual distance is a totally different experience from hitting a ball, and looking back and confirming the distance of the shot. Very revealing - and very helpful. It's so easy to use I look forward to using it every time I practice.

3A little frustrating...
By Keith Ashton
I purchased the Swing Caddie in June 2014 from Golfsmith.com. I was breaking in a new set of clubs and also wanted something to bring with me to the driving range to make it a little more interesting. I spent about two hours at a local range and hit about 250 balls, about 20 balls for each club. I used a range-finder to check actual distances.I found the Swing Caddie pretty inconsistent. For short irons and wedges, it seemed to be less so. However, anything longer than a five iron and it was almost random. As an example, after setting Swing Caddie to Driver I managed to hit a number (around 10) of straight, clean drives reaching a target about 220 yards away. Swing Caddie registered almost all of these as somewhere between 150-170 yrd hits. Ditto with my 3 wood and 5 wood, where I was hitting 180-210 yard shots, and seeing the same 150-170 yard reports.I would not expect this device to accurately register very poor hits, hooks and slices, and other things that go wrong (and I had my share of these also). But I would expect that if I select the club, and swing well and clean, that it would at least be in the ballpark.I am seriously considering returning the unit. I don't think it's defective because it does get it correct some of the time. Just inconsistent. I will try it out one more time at the range and make up my mind about it. I will revise this review if I discover a solution. I may also reach out to the company for some advice. Perhaps there are some tips / tricks, or troubleshooting measures.
